Description:
The Seed Exchange (Exchange) will pay
up to $50 (US) either to the Rhododendron Species Foundation (RSF) directly1
or will pay whatever arrangements Exchange contributors need to
make in order to obtain pollen. Contributors can make arrangements on
their own with whomever they chose for them to receive pollen they
deem desirable to use in making crosses; in such cases the Exchange will send
contributors a check to reimburse their expenses. All 2004 - 2009 Exchange
contributors are eligible to participate.
If seed should be produced (the Exchange acknowledges that seed may not be
produced in some cases and if so, no problem) the Exchange expects to receive
seed produced from crosses using these pollens within 2 - 4 years of receipt of
pollen. The Exchange suggests contributors should pollinate sufficient
stigmas so as to produce at least 1000 seeds, with the intent that the
Exchange will be able to package more seed in each packet consequently allowing
for more seedlings to be grown. The Exchange is looking forward to
extensive use of this program.
1 The Exchange has submitted a list of seed contributors eligible to
receive pollen to RSF (see list below). Contributors only need to order
pollen from the RSF and the RSF will send pollen directly to them. The bill for
pollen payment will come to the Exchange. This arrangement should make
ordering of pollen especially easy for overseas members, as no currency exchange
is required. Contributors will receive the RSF member rate when purchasing
pollen.
