RareFind Nursery is a retail mail-order nursery specializing in unusual, new and time-tested hardy plants. Hank Schannen, the founder, established his personal collection of rhododendrons here in 1999. It is one of the largest collections on the East Coast. The four acre display garden in a natural wooded setting is home to a large and diverse collection of hardy rhododendrons, shrubs, trees, and perennials, and includes many seedlings from our own and other local hybridizers' efforts. Rhododendrons are far from being our only horticultural obsession. We also collect, propagate and grow many other woody and herbaceous plants, including witch hazels, magnolias, Japanese maples and many plants native to the eastern US, including many variegated and unusually colored plants. Peak rhododendron bloom season lasts from May 1 to June 1, but something is usually blooming from about April 1 into August. Picnic tables are available, so pack a lunch and make a day trip. We are available for group visits and can accommodate buses. Please call ahead for group visits so we can provide the attention you deserve. How to get here: (It's easy!) We are open to visitors 4 days a week: Please note: Catalog $3.00, refundable with first purchase. Shipping Information: Contact Information |
